Statement of Purpose

The purpose of this weblog is to disseminate information about: 1) the activities of governmental bodies whose actions affect life on Chincoteague Island and 2) the issues upon which those governmental bodies must act.  The intention of Chincoteague Reports is to help residents and property owners become and stay engaged with the civic life of the Island.

Chincoteague Reports is written and published by unpaid volunteers. The notes, accounts and summaries that appear in the blog are not official minutes of any proceeding.  The text of this Weblog is the product of volunteers who attend meetings, take notes, and publish what they transcribe during the meetings.  To the best of our knowledge, the entries in this Weblog are thorough, accurate and unbiased accounts of the proceedings we monitor.   Errors of fact that we discover in the Weblog will be corrected as soon as possible and notice of corrections will be provided under the "recent posts section" and in "corrections" category.

Chincoteague Reports neither solicits nor accepts paid advertising.  Volunteers receive no compensation for their work.  The expenses of time, materials and webservices required to operate Chincoteague Reports are donated by volunteers. Chincoteague Reports does not solicit funds for its operation or any other purpose.

Chincoteague Reports is not affiliated with any political party, corporation, newspaper, civic action group or any other organization.  Chincoteague Reports does not endorse political candidates and does not advocate for specific outcomes of unresolved civic issues facing the residents and property owners of Chincoteague Island.

Chincoteague Reports does not host a discussion board or maintain a list-service.  While these activities are worthwhile and indeed important features of a healthy democracy, they are considered to be beyond the scope of activity defined by the Statement of Purpose of Chincoteague Reports.  It is our hope that the timeliness, frequency and quality of information contained within Chincoteague Reports will stimulate the creation of discussion in various formats.
